My New Chair
I spend a
lot of time sitting at a desk writing, paying bills, Facebooking and occasionally
sleeping. Over the last year or so I have developed more back problems and
sitting in my old desk chair for long periods of time is torture. Amber surprised
me the other day and ordered me a new desk chair. It's one of those fancy lumbar
support, I'm smarter than you chairs. It was delivered in a smallish box. My
first thought, "There is no way in hell that chair would fit in that
little ol' box!"
Well, we
opened the box and sure enough the chair was there, in about ten thousand
pieces. My first thought was, "Crap!" Then Amber said she would help
me with the following conditions: No cussing, no yelling, no throwing tools and
no partaking in alcoholic beverages. For some reason, I agreed. We began the
task with me giving Amber a kiss and telling her thank you (I thought it may
prove to be helpful later).
About an
hour later, with sweat rolling down my face and arms (yes we were working inside
the air conditioned house), suffering with a headache and a trickle or two of
blood on my hands (I take blood thinners), I took a deep breath and sat down in
the finished chair. It was great! In an attempt to put the last hour behind us,
I turned to Amber, told her thank you for the chair and helping me put it
together and that it was the most comfortable chair I had ever sat in.
There was a
painfully long period of silence and then finally, as she walked out the door,
Amber said, " Well, I'm glad you're so tickled with your chair, because as
far as I'm concerned, you will be sleeping in it for a while!"
