Don't Let Me Be The Reason
There is always a certain amount of emotion involved when you observe someone crying. Even if it is a perfect stranger, certain emotions can be stirred; sympathy, sadness or even anger. Seeing someone else cry, especially a loved one, can be hurtful to an emotional observer, even self professed hardened observers are sometimes moved.
To see their face slowly melt from a happy carefree expression to one of heartbreak and sadness gives one's heart the heavy dreadful feeling of regret. Their eyes, clear and trusting, slowly melt into a watery gaze of hurt. You wish things could be different, you wish you could have prevented the cause or change places with them. Yet, there will always be reasons and there will always be causes.
You chastise for the wrong they have done. You are the one who says no, when everyone else is getting to go. These things are done with the sternness and conviction necessary, all the while with a lump in your throat and a hurt in your heart. Wouldn't it be nice if the answer could always be yes?
You speak quickly in response to emotion and you can tell by the hurt expression and the tearing eyes that you have spoiled the moment all because of reactionary verbal abuse. You wish the words could be unsaid or be forgiven. However, the words can never be unsaid and who's to say if forgiveness comes, it is complete.
There will always be sadness and tears will fall. I pray that I will always be there for those who are in need, when their tears begin to fall and their hearts are heavy. I also pray, when fate will allow, don't let me be the reason.
